NIHR Signals, the latest important health research evidence

NIHR Signals provide decision makers in the NHS, public health and social care with the latest important research from the NIHR and other health research organisations.

Signals explain why the study was needed, what the researchers did, what the study found, how this relates to current guidelines and what the implications are of the findings. They are accompanied by commentary from experts in their field, researchers and those working in practice.

New Signals are published every week on the Discover Portal.

What is the Discover Portal?

Signals are hosted on the NIHR Dissemination Centre Discover Portal, which provides decision makers with a searchable selection of all Signals and other sources of evidence.

The Discover Portal also allows users to view the original abstract, look at definitions of different terms and make comments. It also features a glossary of certain words.

Using the Discover Portal you can:

  • Search for NIHR Signals, Highlights and Themed Reviews that relate to your query and add results to a temporary short list.
  • Browse by your role, one of nearly 40 health care categories or the journal the research was published in.
  • Create an RSS feed based on any search query or category. You can use RSS feeds to work with other Internet based applications to streamline your evidence pick up.
  • Share Signals with the click of a button across a number of social media networks.

Find out how NIHR Signals are produced or sign up to receive a monthly bulletin of new signals every month.
